The 1980 Year Group of the Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Korle Bu in Accra donated hospital equipment worth GH¢30,000 to support the training of students at the college. The donated package included a double function bed with mattress, dressing trolleys and wheelchairs.
The President of 1980 Alumni Year Group Ms. Susana Asiedu said the group reached out to assist the college because of the inadequate equipment available for training the high number of students of admitted to the college. Ms. Asiedu said the group was confident the donated equipment would support the College administration’s effort to provide resources needed to student practicums and help improve the quality of training provided by the college.
“We realised that the current intake of students was high and the school needed a lot of items to conduct such medical practicals for the students so we decided to make this donation to our alma mater on our anniversary,” Ms. Asiedu said.
The donation was mobilized through personal contributions from the Alumni Year Group’s members who reside in Ghana and abroad. The 1980 Year Group is also considering other projects to refurbish the school’s auditorium.
The Vice-Principal of Nursing and Midwifery Training College at Korle Bu Ms. Victoria Boateng received the gift package and thanked the 1980 Alumni Year Group of the College for coming to support the training of nurses and midwives. Ms. Boateng explained that the college had challenges in accessing such equipment to improve learning and practical demonstrations and building of skills for students.
“These items are quite expensive so we appreciate the provision of these things. This will go a long way to provide the students with the needed skills to provide the needed care for their patients,” Ms. Boateng said. said.
Ms. Boateng appealed for more classrooms, computers and an auditorium.
