The Accra Golden Lions Club donated a package of hospital equipment and supplies to the Pediatric Oncology Unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi.
The package included the following need to have equipment and supplies for Children receiving cancer care.:
- Nine bedside lockers
- One medicine cart
- Multi TV satellite decoder
- 20 plastic chairs; 30 waste bins
- 20 packs of Planet soft drinks
- 20 packs of Verna mineral water
- A cake,
- 60 branded and goody bags with re-usable plastic plates, cups and cutlery
Club members also spent some quality time with children on children at the hospital. The outreach to KATH fulfilled the club’s observance of the Pediatric Cancer Month (i.e. February) for Lions Clubs worldwide.
The gift was part of the Club’s commitment to improve childhood cancer survival among and support families who go through unimaginable social, economic, and emotional burdens of having a child living with cancer.
Lion’s Club District Governor of District 418 Dr. Kwaku Mensa-Bonsu said the outreach is meant to highlight the challenges and plights of children living with cancer and to call on government, NGOs, individuals and other stakeholders to put in the needed supports for the survival of our little ones.
President of Accra Golden Lions Club Mrs. Jennifer Duodu-Mensah said children are the next generation of Ghana’s leaders and need to be supported. She noted that, as a mother and President of the club, she chose to make this social outreach her legacy project for 2019/2020 Lions year of service.
