Afram Publications (Ghana) Limited, has presented books worth GH¢4,000 ($1,200) to the Abofu Presby Basic School, near Achimota, in Accra. The books include English, Mathematics, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Environmental Studies and Religious and Moral Education course books, and varied supplementary readers for primary and junior high schools.
Presenting the books, the Sales and Marketing Manager of Afram Publications, Mr. Richard Atobrah, said the gesture was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility activities. He added that the company’s ultimate aim is to help enhance the academic performance of school children and give more pupils the opportunity to access the quality material.
He mentioned that books published by the company are very relevant to the cultural and ethical upbringing of children in the Ghanaian society and beyond and encouraged the children to make use of the books for their benefit. He indicated that reading clubs were very useful in inculcating reading habits in pupils, adding that reading enables pupils have control over the English language. He recommended that the school establish a reading club to promote reading among the pupils.
The Assistant Headmaster of the school, Mr. Emmanuel Armah, who received the books on behalf of the school, lauded the gesture of the company and gave an assurance that the books would be handled properly and be made available to pupils.
