The Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) donated cash of GHC150,000 and a package of personal protective equipment, beverages, food supplies, water and oxygen worth GHC350,000 to the National COVID-19 Trust Fund. AGI provided the much needed support in response to the call by President Akufo-Addo for a concerted response to the fight against the spread of the COVID-19 in Ghana.

President of the Association of Ghana Industries Dr. Yaw Adu Gyamfi commended the government for focusing efforts on containing the pandemic and working hard to reduce the rate of spread of the virus in Ghana. Mr. Gyamfi noted that in the past two weeks the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak and associated controls and lockdown has impacted businesses significantly and interrupted manufacturing activity in Ghana.

Mr. Gyamfi said the situation gave AGI reason to appreciate government’s timely strategy and intervention to alleviate the economic and social impact of the coronavirus pandemic on citizens and industry in Ghana. He referenced government’s engagement of local manufacturers in the production of GHS3.6 million worth of face masks, the provision of GHS600 million in soft loans for SMEs and the extension of tax filing timelines among others as critical steps to reduce the negative impact of the pandemic on businesses. AGI was looking forward to further engagement with  government on the modalities for effective implementation of these lifeline packages.

Mr. Gyamfi expressed gratitude to “gallant members” of the association who had been very supportive of government in these difficulties times. He pointed out that several members of AGI had make separate donations to the fund on their own. AGI also mobilized funds and other support from the following businesses:
