Allianz Life Insurance announced free life insurance cover worth GH¢8.44 million to medical professionals in three hospitals in Ghana which work in direct contact with individuals infected with the highly contagious COVID-19. The institutions include 37 Military Hospital, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital and Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital. CEO of Allianz Life Insurance Mr. Gideon Ataraire remarked that the gift was made to acknowledge the sacrifices health professionals make in their quest to ensure the infection is brought under control.

CEO Ataraire explained that the company recognizes the measures put in place by government to contain the outbreak. He said Allianz took into consideration the effort of government and chose to augment that effort with additonal measures to by taking care of professionals at the frontline of the fight in he event of any eventuality. The package covers 112 medical doctors and 620 nurses who work in the emergency sections and other key departments in the three health institutions. The 12-month cover insures the medical professionals against incidents that may happen over the period regardless of whether it is COVID-19 related or not.

Col. A.G. Bugri , Commanding Officer of the 37 Military Hospital describe the offer by Allianz Life as a very kind gesture, explaining that workers working at the front line are concerned about what might happen to them. He noted that the insurance package would serve as additional motivation for medical professionals who work at the frontline of COVID-19. CEO of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital Dr. Oheneba Owusu-Danso also expressed gratitude to Allianz Life for the insurance package. Dr. Owusu-Danso cautioned that while health professionals go to great lengths to leading the charge at the frontlines, it is also important for the public to abide to adhere to health advisories announced by relevant health agencies.
