Ms. Amma Frimpomaa Dwumah, Managing Director of SIC Life Savings and Loans, provided a mechanized borehole water facility for the girls’ dormitory of Odumaseman Senior High School at Odumasi in Sunyani West Municipality of Ghana’s Bono Region. Ms. Dumah said the gift was part of her personal annual outreach to hospitals, clinics, orphanage and institutions in need of assistance. She expressed personal delight in seeing the project completed.
Access to water for students was a major challenge at Odumaseman Senior High and students had to make trips outside of school limits to go in search of water. Ms. Dwumah was concerned about the situation and made the decision to assist the school. She hoped the new potable water facility would help address the water challenges at the school, especially at the girls’ dormitory. She noted that access to potable water had particularly important during this COVID-19 pandemic when proper and regular handwashing is a critical part of the measures to prevent the risk of infection.
The borehole water project was completed in May 2020, but could not be commissioned because of the COVID-19 related schools shutdown. After the recent announcement to open schools for final year students, Ms. Dwuma and her team seized the opportunity to commission the project so students would not have to make trips outside of school limits in search of water.
Ms. Dwumah urged the students to take good care of the facility. She also challenged school authorities to ensure its proper maintenance to enable the facility to run its full lifespan. Headmaster of Odumaseman Senior High School Mr. Joseph Abudu thanked Amma Frimpomaa and commended her for the civic spirit.
The commissioning was witnessed by the Sunyani West Municipal Director of Education Mr. Issah Baffoe.
