Anbariya Islamic Institute in Tamale presented relief items valued at GH¢3,854,900 to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) to be distributed to flood victims in the Northern Region.

The gift included clothing, food, detergent, building materials, cooking utensils and mats.

Leader of the Anbariya Institute Sheikh Saeed A Zakaria said the gift was made through the Anbariya Relief Project (ARP), which supported distressed people in disaster situations.

Sheikh Zakaria hoped that the donation would help alleviate the suffering of the flood victims whose properties, including buildings, food stocks, farmlands and other personal effects were destroyed in recent floods in the area.

Sheikh Zakaria explained that as a Muslim group, the institute felt the pains of the people appealled to their congregation who willingly donated the items. He described the outreach as being consistent with Islamic teachings and practices, which enjoins followers to be each other’s keeper in times of difficulties.

Vo-Naa Mohammed Abdulai Bawa, Chief of Voggu entreated NADMO to ensure that the supplies were distributed under strict supervision.

Northern Regional Director of NADMO Alhaji Abdallah Hindu  received the items and assured the institute that the resources provided would be distributed directly to hard-hit victims in the most affected communities in the region.
