AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Gold Mine donated 55 desktop computers worth GH₵152,626 a number of schools to support Information Communication and Technology (ICT) studies in schools in the company’s host communities.

Beneficiary schools include Wangarakrom/Badukrom JHS, Teberebie JHS, Adieyie JHS, New Techiman Early Childhood Development Centre, Akempim and Bankyim JHS, Abomponiso JHS, and New Tokunaso Early Childhood Development Centre.

The donation was preceded by a needs assessment of basic education improvement which showed that some teachers and schools were not adequately equipped with skills to teach ICT while some students had never had the opportunity to exeperience a computer at first hand.

Managing Director of Iduapriem Gold Mine Jasper Musadaidzwa said the mine will continue to partner with stakeholders to address infrastructure needs so that host communities are endowed a sustainable future in the areas of health, education and sanitation.

Municipal Chief Executive for Tarkwa Nsuaem Gilbert K. Asmah said the study of ICT was paramount in basic schools.

Board Chair of AngloGold Ashanti Iduapriem Community Trust Fund Professor Newton Amegbey urged the teachers to put in their best to ensure that there is significant improvement in ICT pass rate in the BECE.

HR Director of the Municipal Education Directorate Charles D. Mensah thanked AGA for its continuous support, and assured the mine and its partners that the directorate will improve supervision of students and the use of the computers.
