The Embassy of China donated $18,000 to Ghana AIDS Commission in support of the activities to mark the World AIDS Day.
Chinese Ambassador to Ghana Mr. Shi Ting Wang recalled that Prof. Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, joined hands with the First Ladies of African member states and governments to launch the China-Africa HIV Advocacy Campaign during the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in Beijing.
On the occasion of World AIDS Day, the Embassy of China provided the gift as its token contribution in support of the the fight against HIV and AIDS and the quest for a future free of AIDS.
Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo received the gift on behalf of the Ghana AIDS Commission. Mrs. Akufo-Addo noted that the number of HIV-infected persons in the world continues to rise and so it was imperative to step up the fight against HIV and AIDS. She noted that besides medical treatment, it was also important to popularize AIDS prevention and control through education.
