GCB Bank provided GH¢100,000 to support government’s effort to curtail the deadly coronavirus outbreak. The gift was the first to be made by a financial institution. Managing Director of GCB Bank Mr. Anselm Sowah remarked that were no longer in normal times and that there GCB was obliged to contribute to the public health campaigns and government’s efforts to control the spread of COVID-19.
Borrowing a line from Michael Jackson’s USA for Africa – We are the World, Mr. Sowah appealed for generous contribution by all who could as we join the collective cause to “make a brighter day.” He explained that as the only financial institution with offices and branches across all the 16 regions of Ghana, including border towns and entrypoints, GCB Bank sought to protect its staff and their families, customers and all Ghanaians.
Minister of Health Mr. Agyemang-Manu received the cheque and thanked Mr. Sowah, the board and staff of GCB Bank for the immense support, and for leading the way to contribute to the effort to fight the disease. Mr. Agyeman-Manu called on other financial and corporate institutions to emulate the lead and example of GCB Bank and support the government anti-COVID response effort.
