Geodrill donated GHS150,000 to the Old Achimotan Association (OAA) as the company’s contribution to purchase equipment for Achimota School’s science laboratory complex. In remarks at the giving event, President and CEO of Geodrill Mr. Dave Harper emphasised the importance of education to students at Achimota and hoped their education, notably science education, would set them on the path to successful careers so they could contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development.

Mr. Harper noted a personal longstanding association with Achimota School, where he used to play cricket. He encouraged other companies to take their environmental, social and governance (ESG) obligations seriously and support worthy institutions to fulfil their mission.

“Geodrill, a leading drilling exploration company in the mining sector, is committed to being a socially responsible company that actively promotes social causes such as the education of Ghanaian youth…The support for the laboratory complex is yet another purposeful outcomes-based Geodrill ESG initiative.”

The President of Old Achimotan Association and former Vice Chancellor of University of Ghana, Prof. Ernest Aryeetey, received the cheque on behalf of the association and thanked Geodrill for the generous support. Prof. Aryeetey said the lab was built with support provided by corporate sponsors who contributed about a third of the total cost of the project while Achimota Alumni paid for the remainder of the cost. He said OAA and Achimota school were optimistic of receiving further contributions from companies to sustainably fund the provision of science education and other programmes for the benefit of students.
