Ghana Catholic Mission in Hamburg donated an Haematology Analyzer (Sysmex XP-300) to the Holy Spirit Health Centre at Kwasi Fante in Kwahu Afram Plains South District of Ghana’s Eastern Region. The GHS50,000-worth equipment, the first of its kind in the District, comes as a relief to the 100,000 people who access health services at the centre.

Rev. Sr Mary Nkrumah, SSpS, Administrator of Holy Spirit Health Centre, received the equipment and described it as a big relief to the centre and to the district.

“The Holy Spirit Health Centre is now the only facility with this type of device in the Afram Plains South District. This machine will help in OPD and maternity cases and will facilitate our work” she said.

Currently, patients requiring blood analysis services travel 70km to Donkorkrom to get their tests done. Access to the new equipment means patients will now have reduced travel time and shorter travel distances. The equipment will also help improve the quality of healthcare service delivery in the district.

Mr. Thomas Aboo, Laboratory Technician at the Holy Spirit Health Centre, explained that the machine would help in differential diagnosis and in the estimation of haemoglobin, type of anaemia and other white blood cell abnormalities.

Mr. Aboo appealed to the general public and to philanthropic organizations to support the centre with much needed equipment including a chemistry analyser, blood bank refrigerator and refrigerator for keeping regents, ECG machine and an HB electrophoresis machine.
