GOIL donated a Toyota minivan to the National Blood Service, Ghana (NBSG) in Accra.
At a short ceremony to present the vehicle to the NBSG, the Managing Director of GOIL, Mr. Patrick A. K. Akorli said “GOIL was happy to support the National Blood Service with the vehicle following a request by the Director of the Service, Dr. Justina K. Ansah”.
He was of the hope that the vehicle will serve the intended purpose of enhancing blood collections from voluntary unpaid donors in the communities.
The Board Chairman of GOIL, Professor William Afiakwa Asomaning indicated that the donation of the vehicle to the NBSG forms part of the Corporate Social Responsibility programme of GOIL. He noted that it was important to support institutions such as the National Blood Service, Ghana, which provide essential services to the public.
The Minister of Health, Hon. Alex Segbefia received the keys to the vehicle on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the National Blood Service, Ghana and handed it over to the Director of the Service, Dr. Justina Kordai Ansah
Mr. Segbefia thanked
management of GOIL for the kind gesture and urged other organizations to emulate GOIL’s example by supporting the National Blood Service in various ways. He also encouraged the general public to voluntarily blood on regular basis, citing his recent blood donation during the World Blood Donor Day celebration as a sure way to ensure adequate supply of blood at all times.
The van will be used for mobile blood collection exercises in the communities.
Management and staff of GOIL, led by the MD, Mr. Patrick A. K. Akorli, also donated blood, which yielded 73 units during the presentation the ceremony to present the vehicle.
Present during the donation ceremony were Management of GOIL, the Chairperson of the National Blood Committee, Dr. (Mrs.) Sylvia Boye, Rev. Joseph Brian Ansah, and Prof. Amah Nelson, former WBA Heavyweight Champion and now Brand Ambassador for GOIL.
GOIL, currently has the largest retail networks of filling stations across Ghana. The company also has numerous consumer outlets nationwide.
