Guilin Pharmaceutical donated GH₵11, 700 worth of  Glunate and D- Artepp anti-malaria medicine to the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.

The gift was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives for 2015.

Field Force Effectiveness Manager of Guilin Ltd Mr. Cyrus Baidoo said the management of the company was touched by the news that the hospital staff were going to stage a protest because of the shortage of essential medication and logistics.

Mr. Baidoo said as a company committed to the welfare and wellbeing of people, Guilin Pharmaceutical reached out to support the hospital to provide better care for patients

Chief Psychiatrist Dr. Akwasi Osei thanked the management of the company for the outreach and noted that the anti-malaria medicine will go a long way to save the hospital from its already constrained resources.

Dr. Osei said about 40 percent of patients in the hospital’s care suffer malaria infections and the hospital procures anti-malaria medication to treat patients the cost of which is unbearable for the hospital.

Dr. Osei said government supply of medication had not been forthcoming, which made it difficult for the hospital to operate effectively. He noted that the operations of the hospital would be brought to a halt, if the hospital were to rely on government subvention alone.

Dr. Osei called on businesses and religious organizations to support the hospital.
