Hill View Montessori School at new Ashongman in Accra donated GHS25,000 worth of furniture and supplies to students at Odotom Akubrefa SDA Basic School in Ewutu Senya Breku District. Staff and students from Hill View Montessori also spent time having fun games with staff and students at SDA Basic School, including musical chairs, quiz and dance competitions.

The outreach was part of the school’s annual ‘Touch a Heart’ community service project and had the goal of enhancing teaching and learning in the village. The gift package included 200 tables and chairs, school bags, clothing, footwear, soaps, detergent, sanitary supplies, toothpastes and toothbrushes, and teaching and learning supplies.

Director of Hill View Montessori Mrs. Vida Asamoah- Gyekye said the school’s Touch a Heart 2020 marked its fifth year milestone. Mrs. Asamoah-Gyekye recalled that the annual project that begun in 2016 had already reached out to Dego in Akuapem South District, Yaw Boame and Kwaboanta in Ayensuano District and Yahoman in Ga West District. Mrs. Asamoah-Gyekye expressed her profound gratitude to parents, teachers and school children of Hill View Montessori School for supporting the outreach to children in the village.

Principal of Hill View Montessori School Mr. Moses Aniagyei expressed the excitement about being able to support other school children from economically disadvantaged communities. Mr. Aniagyei urged others to emulate the gesture.

Mr. Francis Ayison, Head teacher of Odotom Akubrefa SDA Basic School commended Hill View Montessori School for the thoughtful gesture and hoped that the outreach would open more doors for the school. Mr. Ayison described some of the challenges affecting the school including lack of furniture, children siting and writing concrete bricks in classrooms and classes being held under trees.

Naayi Andoh Akrobeto, Amankrado of Odotom Akubrefa, thanked Hill View Montessori for the kindness, describing the social outreach as the first of its kind in their community. Naayi Andoh Akrobeto appealed to parents to show love and care for their children and invest in their children’s education to give them a brighter future.

Students at SDA basic expressed their grattitude to Hill View Montessori School and appealed to government and other philanthropic organizations and individuals to come to the help of the school. The identified a library, computer lab and teaching and learning supplies as some of their most urgent needs.
