The Trinity Temple of International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) donated curtains, 28 sets of bed sheets and pillowcases, two 50-inch TV sets, food and other essential supplies to the Psychiatric Ward of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumas.

Resident Pastor of Trinity Temple of ICGC, who is also the Regional Overseer of Ashanti, Ahafo and Bono Regions, Rev. John Abu Baidoo, announced that Trinity Temple ICGC was adopting the KATH Psychiatric Unit  so it could support the care of patients at the unit.

Rev. Baidoo noted that mental health has yet to be given the needed attention it deserves and that it has become necessary for to provide support to address the health challenge. Rev. Baidoo called for a change in the erroneous public perception and stereotypes about persons with mental illness.

The Psychiatric Unit sees over 15,000 patients from Ashanti, Northern and other parts of the country every year. Yet, it only has an 11-bed ward, which compels the Unit to discharge patients earlier than their due date of discharge.

Head of the Psychiatric Unit of Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Dr. Ruth Owusu Antwi, described the church’s gesture as the first of its kind at the unit. She said the partnership and the donation would be of immense benefit to patient’s care at the Unit.

Dr. Antwi was hopeful that the donation will encourage other institutions and benevolent individuals to also come to the aid of the Unit.
