ICONS Social Club gave a cheque for GHC2,500 to Echoing Hills Village at Ogbojo at Madina in Accra to pay the the Village’s electricity bill that had been outstanding for months.
The club also donated rice, cooking oil, water, beverages and toiletries to children at the Village.
President of ICON Social Club Mr. Alex Oman said the club was committed to support the socially vulnerable. Mr. Oman explained that most orphanages and social care centres are facing serious hardships because they do not have enough funds to care for the children.
General Secretary of ICON Social Club Mr. Gilbert Osei-Alomele expressed the club’s readiness to support orphanages across the country. He noted that the club was open to young men who are professionals and are ready to give back to society.
Director of Echoing Hills Village Rev. Lamina Lawrence said the Echoing Hills Village was privately owned and managed by himself and some volunteers. He noted that although the Village gets referrals from the Domestic Violence & Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police and the Department of Social Welfare, no government funding support is provided for the care of children referred to the Village.
Echoing Hills cares for more than 50 individuals with special needs, particularly children. The Village’s existing clients include individuals with are visually impaired, deaf, persons with disabilities and the homeless.
The Village provides shelter and occupational skills training.
