Inlaks Ltd refurbished triage desk area of the Out Patient Department (OPD) of Accra Psychiatric Hospital. Inlaks renovated the waiting area, and provided ceiling and industrial fans, energy-efficient lighting systems, and comfortable seating.

Executive Director of Inlaks Ltd Mr. Olufemi Muraino explained that besides providing core banking infrastructure to several banks in Ghana over the past two decades, Inlaks Ltd also actively supported social organizations and the socially vulnerable, as part of its operations. He added that, the company decided to go beyond making donations to the socially vulnerable by undertaking a tangible project that would impact people for years to come, which is why the company undertook this gazetted renovation project.

The OPD unit of Accra Psychiatric hospital serves some 120 clients every day and about 130,000 patients in a year. The dilapidated infrastructure of the OPD waiting area made it difficult for the hospital to manage the overcrowding that occurred regularly. The refurbishment helped to address the challenge and the significance of the Inlaks assistance could be seen in light of the current pandemic, which has made social distancing crucial in preventing the spread of the COVID-19 virus.

Director of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital Dr. Adwoa Pinaman Appau recounted the hospital’s struggles to get corporate support to renovate the waiting area at the OPD, and thanked Inlaks for stepping up to assist:

“We have tried severally to collaborate with corporate entities to renovate the OPD waiting area and make it a more comfortable place for clients because this place has been very uncomfortable due to the lack of proper lighting and ventilation without success… But when we pitched it to Inlaks, they agreed to help us and today we have this beautiful place and we really appreciate what they have done.

Acting Country Manager – Ghana of Inlaks Limited, Mrs. Esther Yacoba Amuah noted that psychiatry is critical to the health of any individual, and that Inlaks was happy to be of assistance to the hospital and was looking forward to doing more in the future to ensure that anyone who visits the facility got the best of service.
