US First Lady Melania Trump donated a phototherapy machine to the Greater Accra Regional (Ridge) Hospital. Mrs Trump also donated hampers and gifts to mothers and children at the Child Welfare Clinic of the Hospital.
The phototherapy equipment is used in treating neonatal jaundice in newborn babies, a common condition which affects 50% of term and 80% of preterm babies.
Medical Director of Ridge Hospital Dr. Emmanuel Srofenyo was excited by the Mrs. Trump’s outreach. Dr. Srofenyo described the equipment as one of the best in the world. He noted that it complements the stock of equipment available at the hospital and would help to save the lives of infants.
