Melcom Group undertook a tree planting exercise in parts of Accra’s Central Business District as part of the company’s contribution to the ‘Greening Ghana’ initiative spearheaded by Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA).

Volunteer management and staff planted trees in the open space in front of Assembly Press and the Accra City Hotel. The effort is intended to green and beautify the city and also combat the negative effects of climate change in the city.

Communications Director of Melcom Mr. Godwin Avenorgbo said the green colour in Ghana’s flag represents the potential of the country to maximize its greenery for sustainable living. Mr. Avenorgbo described it as a gift from God that provides for a healthy environment and improved agriculture for high yields in food and cash crops. He pointed to this as the reason Melcom was happy to support ongoing initiatives to make Accra green again.

The tree planting outreach was also part of activities to celebrate Melcom’s 30 successful years of business operations in Ghana.

Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) of Accra Mr. Mohammed Nii Adjei Sowah thanked Melcom for support the Greening Ghana initiative.
