The Merging Mites Foundation reached out to Bukunor M.A. Basic School in Yilo Krobo District of Ghana and provided critical renovation of the school’s building and classrooms. The nonprofit NGO painted the building exteriors and classrooms. The kindergarten block was given sharp look with visually stimulating art paintings to encourage kids’ learning of the names of objects, animals, shapes and colours.

Prior to the refurbishment, the nine classroom facility was in a serious state of disrepair and dilapidation. Merging Mites believes it is important for children in underserved communities to be given a safe and enabling environment for learning and development, just as their contemporaries at schools in better-resourced cities.

Executive Director of Merging Mites Foundation Ms. Dorcas Yaa Mensah said the intervention was consistent with the NGO’s, which includes reaching out to schools through holding health screening outreaches, renovating and painting schools and provision of school furniture and school supplies in underserved communities. Ms. Mensah affirmed Merging Mites Foundation’s resolve to keep mobilizing resources to address challenges in schools in distressed and underserved communities.

Ms. Mensah appealed to donor organizations to support Merging Mites Foundation to enable it reach out to many more schools in the Eastern Region and across Ghana. Headmistress of Bukunor M.A. Basic School Ms. Gloria Tetteh commended Merging Mites Foundation for the outreach and noted that refurbishment would encourage school attendance and help improve teaching and learning at the school.

Other witnesses at the commissioning of the project included directors of Merging Mites Foundation Mr. Anthony Eghan and Mr. Austin Amevor Kabutey.
