MODEC Production Services Ghana Ltd, alongside its partners – Mitsui & Co. Ltd., Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. and Marubeni Corporation, gave Ghana’s Ministry of Health $600,000 worth of testing kits, laboratory equipment, supplies, regents and PPE. The donated resources will be distributed to four COVID-19 testing centres in Ghana namely:

  • Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR),
  • Kumasi Centre for Collaborative Research (KCCR)
  • Takoradi Veterinary Laboratory (TVL) and
  • National Public Health Reference Laboratory (NPHRL).

Managing Director of MODEC Mr. Theo Ahwireng explained that assistance provided to the Government and people of Ghana was to boost the capabilities of the testing centres. Mr. Ahwireng said MODEC believed in very strong health and safety arrangements for citizens and workers. He recalled that MODEC had reached out and supported several institutions to test, treat and manage COVID-19 cases. He added that MODEC believes Ghana should not rest of her oars, but instead keep on with the fight until COVID-19 was eradicated.

Minister for Health Dr. Okoe Boye received the gift package and thanked MODEC for the assistance. Dr. Boye advised the general public to adhere to the mandatory wearing of nose masks as COVID-19 because COVID-19 was not yet eradicated in Ghana. He cautioned that fighting an infectious agent was like fighting a wild fire, and that until the last bit was extinguished, the situation could get worse again.
