Nestlé MILO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, sponsored the 62nd President’s Independence Day Awards 2019 to recognize 20 high achieving junior high students who came up tops in the 2018 Basic Education Certificate Exam (BECE). Award winners included four high-achieving students with special needs.

Each award winner received a crystal plate, a medal, a Samsung tablet, a cash prize, a certificate signed by the President Akufo-Addo and one-year supply of Nestlé products.


President Akufo-Addo said 2019 award winners had brought joy and pride to their families, their schools, their communities and to themselves. President Akufo-Addo urged the students to keep striving for excellence and thanked Nestle for its continued contribution to supporting academic excellence in Ghana.

Ms. Philomena Tan, CEO of Nestlé Ghana, reaffirmed Nestlé’s belief that empowerment through education is the key to sustainable development and secures the future of a country that invests in its youth.

The President’s Independence Day awards was established in 1993 and has awarded scholarships to bright young students every year. Winners are selected on the basis of exceptional exam scores obtained in Basic Certificate of Education examination.
