Nestle Ghana Limited in collaboration with the International Cocoa Initiative (ICI), a non-governmental organisation, rescued of 975 children at risk of or involved in child labour in cocoa growing areas in Ashanti Region.

Working through  its Child Labour Monitoring and Remediation System (CLMRS), Nestle provided school supplies for 776 of these Children so they could get back to school while the remainder were being supported to learn a trade.

The supplies included school bags, school uniforms, exercise and notebooks, footwear and others.

Program Coordinator of ICI Mr. Prince Gyamfi explained that besides direct support for the children, the programme also supported parents of rescued children with alternative income-generating skills to enable them to continue to provide for the basic needs of their children.

Mr. Gyamfi advised parents not to expose their children to hazardous work as that could hamper their development and also affect their future.
