The Ntiamoah Foundation re-equipped the computer lab at Akwadum DA Model Basic School in New Abirem with 30 personal computers and furniture at a cost of GH¢33,000.
The intervention follows an earlier one in 2006 when the foundation provided the school lab 20 computers for ICT education, all of which had broken down.
The school’s Parent-Teacher Association renovated the lab to pave the way for the re-installation of new computers by Ntiamoah Foundation.
Executive Director of Ntiamoah Foundation Ms. Mercy Quansah Ansah explained that because the foundation recognizes the role of computers in the practical teaching and learning of ICT. She explained that this was why the foundation’s founder Mr. R.K. Asante and its board led efforts to purchase and replace the old broken-down computers.
Ms. Quansah Ansah advised urged the PTA to ensure the regular maintenance of the computers to ensure their durability. Project Officer of Ntiamoah Foundation Mr. Shiva Oppong Banahene also urged the teachers to ensure the children had access to the computers because the computers were provided for the children’s use. Mr. Banahene announced that the foundation would need a report on the state of the laboratory and the computers at the end of every academic term.
Birim North District Director of Education Mr. Isaac Okyere commended the Ntiamoah Foundation for its commitment to the education and health sector in the district. Head teacher of Akwadum DA Model Basic School Mr. Daniel Hackenburg Tetteh praised the Ntiamoah Foundation for its continuous support for the school and predged to ensure the proper maintenance of the computers.
