RMG Ghana Ltd launched a ‘Farmers Support Program’ to help boost agricultural production in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. RMG Ghana recognizes that food security remains key in this trying time and that it was important to support farmers to ensure sustained food production and food security. The program will support farmers, technical staff and distributors with Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) worth GH¢100,000.

The program will also provide beneficiaries with COVID-19 awareness and disease prevention education. Some 5,000 active farmers are expected to benefit from the direct distribution of supplies and the public health educational campaigns are billed to be implemented through the RMG Ghana’s zonal managers and technical officers nationwide. RMG Ghana projects that beneficiary farmers will be able to cultivate some 60,000 acres of maize, 7000 cotton lint, 10,000 acres of soya and about 6,000 acres of rice.

Launching the program, Managing Director of RMG Ghana Mr. William Kotey said notwithstanding the havoc wreaked by the COVID-19 pandemic, RMG Ghana Ltd was able to secure all its inputs supply for farmers for the upcoming farming seasons in the northern regions and the rest of the farming seasons in the southern regions. Mr. Kotey announced that RMG Ghana was investing back part of its margins through discounts to  help cushion farmers as they go through the pandemic.

The Commercial Manager of RMG Ghana Ltd. Mr. Martin Tettey Nartey observed that farmers have been part of Ghana’s economic success story and that, as we battled the COVID-19 pandemic, it was important to protect farmers so they could produce to feed the nation. Mr. Nartey said RMG Ghana was putting in measures to to attain this goal.
