The 1979 Year group of St. Monica’s Old Students Association (SMOSA’79) commissioned a newly built multipurpose play court for St. Monica Senior High School at Mampong in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. The GHS75,000 multipurpose court can be used for volleyball, basketball and table tennis. The facility is expected to support the training of student athletes from various sports disciplines to help make them competitive in inter-school sports competitions.

The gift from the 1979 alumni was provided  in commemoration of the alumni group’s 40th anniversary of graduating from St. Monica’s Senior High. Spokeswoman for SMOSA’79 Mrs. Grace Frimpong said the alumni took a holistic view of sports. Mrs. Frimpong said engaging in sports in healthy competition was one path to enhance self-confidence and develop a positive attitude among students.

Headmistress of St. Monica’s Senior High School Mrs. Esther Ntodwah commended SMOSA’ 79 Year Group. She also expressed appreciation to various old students for efforts in helping carve an enviable niche for the school.
