Takoradi International Company (TICO) gave scholarships to 200 students in the Shama District. Beneficiaries were drawn from across various levels of the education system and received a total of $50,000 in scholarship grants. TICO describes its generous outreach as part of its contribution towards attainment of SDG 4, attainment of inclusive and equitable quality education as well as lifelong opportunities for all by 2030.

Mr. Ernest Osafo, General Manager of TICO, beyond supporting the collective efforts to achieve SDG Goal 4, the scholarship funds provided by TICO was meant to build the capacity of residents and prepare them to seize job opportunities in TICO and become independent and successful in life. Mr. Osafo noted that there are already scholarship alums who are working as engineers with TICO.

The TICO scholarship scheme was inaugurated in 2013 to support selected students from basic/junior high, senior high and tertiary institutions as part of TICO’s corporate social responsibility commitments in Shama District.

Shama District Education Director Ms. Efua Amoakowaa-Quansah commended TICO for increasing access to education in Shama District and for promoting Science, Technology and Mathematics (STEM) education in the area.

TICO is one of the early thermal power generation firms at Aboadze, which operates a 330-megawatt thermal plant with VRA as a partner.
