Universal Merchant Bank (UMB) held its 6th sponsored scholarship for top performers of the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidate. The top prize for 2019 was awarded to Ms. Melisa Amoah. The package covers full tuition scholarship, books and school supplies for the duration of her studies, support for accommodation, a laptop computer, branded UMB tokens and a cash prize of GHS1,000.
The second and third overall best candidates Ms. Nana Adwoa Agyemang and Ms. Ewurabena Cudjoe were each awarded laptops, cash and UMB branded gift items.
CEO of Universal Merchant Bank Mr. Benjamin Amenumey said UMB views its scholarship awards as being more than just a CSR initiative. Mr. Amenumey described the program as the bank’s civic responsibility in helping build a great nation through education, which UMB views as the passport to a great future.
Mr. Amenumey said, as an indigenous bank, UMB would continue to empower the youth through providing them financial incentives that have the effect of encouraging parents to motivate their children and help them to succeed in school.
Ms. Melisa Amoah, the best candidate in the 2019 WASSCE and her family were joyful and grateful for the award. Witnesses at the award ceremony included Prof. Kwasi Opoku-Amankwa, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service and Prof. Kwesi Yankah, Minister of State – Tertiary Education
