Female staff of Vodafone Ghana held a mentoring session for 500 girls from selected schools in Accra. The event was held to commemorate International Women’s Day 2019.
Vodafone women staff volunteers shared their experience with the girls as a means to motivate them to strive for excellence.
The experience of the CEO of Vodafone Ghana Ms. Yolanda Cuba, who led the staff volunteers, resonated well with most of girls who were being raised by single parents, particularly women.
Ms Cuba explained that most great women were raised in women-headed households, but overcame the odds to achieve their dreams. She encouraged the girls to draw inspiration from such people.
Ms. Cuba said Vodafone believed in empowering girls and had initiative programs to support support girls in the study of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Mrs. Hannah Ashiokai Akrong, HR Director at Vodafone, said the International Women’s Day was significant for Vodafone because women’s equality and issues were central to the company’s values.
