The Jim Ovia Foundation, under the auspices of the Founder and Chairman of Zenith Bank, Jim Ovia made a gift of US$2 million to Ashesi University, a Ghanaian private university.

Mr. Ovia disclosed this during the grand opening of Zenith Bank Ghana Corporate Headquarters. The gift is to support Ashesi University provide scholarships for students in the next four years.

Commenting on the donation, Mr. Ovia noted that “Ashesi is almost now like our own Harvard and Stanford,” “our own Ivy League School.” The gift is therefore Zenith’s way of contributing to the development of education in Ghana where Zenith does business.

In attendance was President Akufo-Addo and  Nigerian High Commissioner Olufemi M. Abikoye.  President Akufo-Addo commended Zenith Bank for instituting the Jim Ovia Foundation scholarships, which, in September 2017, approved US$1 million grant for over 30 students of the Ashesi University in Ghana and the Covenant University in Nigeria.

President Akufo-Addo described the gesture as a tremendous initiative and assured the bank and all those associated with it of government’s maximum support.
